Legally Blonde the Musical will be the theatre hit of the summer. We’ve been waiting for a while to see who would be revealed as the cast for this hotly-anticipated tour, which kicks off at the Empire in July. And it’s mainly a cast of West End pros rather than household names, with an Atomic Kitten and a Hollyoaks baddy providing the star factor. It’s not enough to get me any extra excited about its arrival, but I’m looking forward to a good, high-quality production nevertheless.
The main cast comprises Faye Brookes as Elle, Iwan Lewis as Emmett, Liz McClarnon as Paulette, Neil Toon (Hollyoaks’ Kyle) as Warner and Dave Willetts as Professor Callaghan.
The show’s West End stint has bagged all sorts of awards already – best new musical in the Whatsonstage.com Awards 2011, and was nominated for five Olivier Awards, going on to win best new musical, best new actress for Sheridan Smith and best supporting role in a Musical for co-star Jill Halfpenny.
Based on the hit movie starring Reese Witherspoon, it tells the tale of college sweetheart and homecoming queen Elle Woods, who doesn’t take no for an answer. So when her boyfriend, Warner, dumps her for someone more serious, Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books, and heads for Harvard Law School accompanied by her loveable chihuahua, Bruiser.
Tickets are on sale now for the show, which runs from July 8 – 16, by calling 0844 871 3017 or book online at www.liverpoolempire.org.uk.
