A new comedy play inspired by the Marx Brothers embarks on a nationwide tour this autumn, and is stopping off at the Lantern on September 12.
The Doppel Gang is a new comedy by Just Some Theatre Company’s Dominic Hedges: War wages in Europe, while back in Blighty a group of entertainers battle to save a theatre from closure by masquerading as The Marx Brothers.
As the Blitz tears through London, a hopeless theatre manager, Lombard, persuades a desperate double act, Tommy and Cyril and not-so-convincing male impersonator Rachel to join him in an audacious stunt; one last roll of the dice to save his building and boost morale.
The curtain is about to rise, but so are the stakes as an unprecedented series of revelations leads to an exhilarating chain of events. Will anyone believe they are the real Marx Brothers?
Arts Council England have supported the development of The Doppel Gang script and also support the 2015 UK tour.
Just Some Theatre Company’s previous touring plays include Coward, a speculative fiction about Noel Coward.
Just Some was founded in 2012 by actors Jake Urry and Peter Stone. Their aim was to produce professional theatre productions and provide workshops for young performers. They have since expanded to the team to include Jordan Moore as the trio continue to grow their portfolio.
