Brick Up: The Wirral Strikes Back takes a tongue in cheek look at the recent economic downturn and the traditional rivalries between Liverpool and the Wirral, and stars Eithne Browne, who performed in the original ‘Brick Up’ and has gone on to grace a host of Liverpool theatrical productions over the past four years, joined by fellow ex-Brookside star Dean Sullivan, famous for his portrayal of one of the most loved characters in soap history, Jimmy Corkhill. Playing opposite these two Liverpool legends are Warren Donnelly and Bernie Foley. Warren is famous for his role in cult Channel 4 comedy Shameless, in which he has played policeman Stan Waterman for the past six years. He is joined by veteran Brookside actress Bernie Foley.
You Tube sensation Darren Farley reprises his role of reporter Tony Hoax, last seen in Allt’s 2009 hit One Night In Istanbul at the Empire. His impressions of Liverpudlian football players have seen him become a cult internet star. He is also joined by production company Bang On Top’s ‘favourite hod carrier turned thespian’, Tony Caveney. Tony was plucked from the terraces of Anfield and thrust in to the limelight when he too debuted in One Night In Istanbul in May 2009.
The original Brick Up the Mersey Tunnels, which Allt co-wrote with Dave Kirby, has become legendary over its four smash hit runs, and has been credited with bringing the popular masses back to Liverpool theatre.
After the phenomenal success of One Night In Istanbul in 2009, which apparently holds the record of being “the fastest selling Liverpool Play of all time”, and its subsequent return to the Liverpool Empire in 2010, Brick Up: The Wirral Strikes back premieres at the Liverpool Empire from September 7 to 18.
